Yes, there is a run-off election on Tuesday
There will be a Republican primary run-off election on Tuesday, July 15, to decide candidates for two statewide offices along with the nominee for the 5th Congressional District.
Republicans Cheryl Baswell Guthrie and Wayne Parker are in the run-off to be the Republican candidate in the 5th Congressional District. This is the seat currently held by Democrat Bud Cramer, who has announced his retirement from Congress.
The winner of the run-off will face Democratic Parker Griffith of Huntsville in the fall. Griffith is currently an Alabama State Senator.
The two statewide races that will be decided for the Republican are:
Court of Criminal Appeals Judge, Place No. 1. The candidates are Beth Kellum and Lucie McLemore; and
President of the Public Service Commission. The candidates are Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh and Matt Chancey.
Lawrence County Probate Judge Mike Praytor expects the turnout to be low.
“Only the Congressional race has any local interest,” he said. “I expect maybe 1,000 voters.”
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. There are no changes in polling places for this election.
