A two-vehicle wreck on Ala. 157 last Wednesday night killed a Hatton couple.

Local authorities said Foy Denson Counts, 75, and Julia Harville Counts, 73, of Hatton, were pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, just northwest of Ala. 101, near Taylor Fish Market Road.

The Counts were driving from their home to their church in the Shoals when their vehicle was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Clint Anderson of Town Creek. Anderson was treated and released at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield.

The wreck happened around 6:40 p.m. on Nov. 17, authorities said. The Counts’ vehicle had turned into the northbound lane of Ala. 157 when it was struck. Their vehicle crossed the median and came to rest in the southbound lane, facing south.

Authorities said Anderson’s speed was likely a contributing factor in the wreck.

The Counts’ funeral was held Saturday at Cox Boulevard Church of Christ. The couple had two daughters.

Lawrence Funeral Home in Moulton handled the arrangements.
