Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said Thursday morning that his investigators have solved a Trinity burglary and made an arrest in the case.
Matthew Ray Battles, 22, of 78 Broad Street, Falkville, is charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree theft of property, and fraudulent use of a credit card. All the charges are felonies.
Mitchell said the residential break-in took place at a home on County Road 358 in the East Lawrence community. Investigators were able to develop Battles as a suspect early in the investigation thanks to eyewitness accounts. Witnesses gave a description after the subjects were seen leaving the scene. The sheriff said after Battles used the victim’s debit card at an area business, investigators were able to positively identify him. Mitchell said Battles confessed to his involvement.
Battles was taken to the Lawrence County Jail after his arrest and is being held on $4,500 bond. The sheriff said the investigation is still ongoing and additional arrests could be forthcoming.
