A stolen vehicle was recovered in Lawrence County on Sunday, following a burglary and assault on two Decatur residents four days earlier, according to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

Athens man, Warren Andrew Bennett Jr., 27, was arrested in Shelby County, Tennessee, last Thursday and later extradited to Decatur on charges of first-degree burglary and first-degree assault, according to reports.

Bennett is accused of burglarizing and assaulting two elderly residents on Essex Drive in Decatur on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

A 2017 silver Honda CR-V, belonging to the two victims, was reported stolen on Nov. 14, Lawrence County Chief Deputy Tim Sandlin said. He said the vehicle was found a few miles outside of Moulton on Sunday.

“Hunters spotted a suspicious vehicle in a wooded area off of County Road 226 and reported it to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office,” Sandlin said. “The Sheriff’s Office determined it was the Honda CR-V that had been stolen in Decatur, and the vehicle was recovered.”
