A Friday crash in Hillsboro that left one dead and injured three others may have been caused by a heart attack, according to Lawrence County Coroner Scott Norwood.

Frances Addington Terry, 77, of Hillsboro, died at Parkway Medical Center in Decatur following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Alabama Highway 20 and County Road 400 around 4:40 p.m. on Friday, according to reports.

Terry died from a heart attack, which likely caused the accident, said Norwood, who also serves as the fire chief for Courtland Fire Department.

According to reports, Terry, who was driving a 2013 Cadillac XTS, failed to yield the right of way to a 2017 Nissan Versa, and three other vehicles wrecked in a ditch while trying to avoid the initial collision.

Norwood said three others were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
