Children and parents are invited to the Lawrence County Farmers Market this Thursday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to take part in the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Power of Produce program.
The Lawrence County Extension Office introduced POP Thursdays last week as a way to get children excited about healthier eating habits. The program is also a great way to support area farmers.
On select Thursdays, children may visit the Lawrence County Farmers Market with their parents to sample a variety of locally-grown fruits and vegetables.
For every sample the child tries, he or she will receive $2 in POP Bucks to be spent at the Farmers Market.
The goal is to increase children’s exposure and willingness to try new produce, ACES states.
POP Thursdays will take place from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on May 30, June 13, June 27, July 18 and Aug. 1.
The program is sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America and the Rotary Club of Lawrence County.
The Farmers Market is located at 13182 Alabama Highway 157 in Moulton.
