Joe Wheeler EMC Director of Purchasing Benita Owens recently completed an internship program in electric utility management with the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Owens, who graduated the program on May 9, is one of a select few utility management staff that will have completed the Robert I. Kabat Management Internship Program (MIP) this year.
The internship, which is offered by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin, consists of 10-day sessions designed to improve participants’ knowledge of consumers and how to serve them. The program also explores every facet of the electric utility industry and the ways it is changing across the nation.
“This was an awesome experience,” Owens said. “I’m always trying to grow and learn more, which is why I appreciate Joe Wheeler EMC for allowing me to increase my knowledge in management.”
Only rural electric cooperative CEOs and top-level members of management participate in the program, according to JWEMC.
