Robbery suspect extradited

Mahmoud

Robbery suspect Sami Saleh Mahmoud, who was caught attempting to flee the country at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on June 25, has been extradited to the Lawrence County Jail, the Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.

Mahmoud was apprehended by U.S. Customs in Atlanta after a search warrant was issued for his arrest in Lawrence County for an incident that occurred on June 22.

The suspect, who was an employee at The Country Mart Store in Trinity, was allegedly involved in an altercation with the store owner before deputies and investigators responded around 9 p.m. that Saturday.

A report states that Mahmoud robbed the store of an “undisclosed amount of cash.”

He is being held at the Lawrence County Jail without bond.
