Graduation guidelines for this week

East Lawrence seniors toss their caps in the air at last year’s graduation ceremony

The day that we weren’t sure would take place gets to go on as scheduled this week.

Each local high school is set to host their graduation ceremony this week.

It’s created plenty of positive buzz since the announcement, as now class of 2020 seniors will get to have the official end to their grade school careers that they weren’t sure they would get.

In accordance to social distancing guidelines, the school board has come up with plenty of measures to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.

Each senior at each school will be given six tickets for the ceremony. Families are asked to stay six feet apart from other non family members. Masks are not required, but anyone is welcome to wear one.

Below is the date, location and any additional guidelines for each county school.

Lawrence County High School

Where: Lawrence County High School football stadium, located adjacent to the school.

When: Thursday, May 21 at 7 p.m.

Additional guidelines: Only graduates and staff will be allowed on the football field.

R.A. Hubbard High School

Where: R.A. Hubbard High School football stadium located behind the school.

When: Thursday, May 21 at 7 p.m.

Additional guidelines: All attendees are encouraged to wear a mask. Individuals with compromised immune systems are encouraged not to attend. At the conclusion of the ceremony everyone is asked to immediately return to their vehicles. The ceremony will be live streamed on the NFHS network.

Hatton High School

Where: Hatton High School football stadium located behind the school.

When: Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m.

Additional Guidelines: Traditional social distancing guidelines. The ceremony will be live streamed on Hatton High School’s Facebook page for those unable to attend.

East Lawrence High School

Where: East Lawrence High School football stadium located behind the school.

When: Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m.

Additional guidelines: Each student will be given six arm bands, four in one color and two in another. The four will be allowed to sit in chairs on the field, while the other two will be allowed to sit in the bleachers. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the East Lawrence Facebook page.
