A new scam is targeting Joe Wheeler EMC members.

According to a social media post by the co-op on Tuesday, a JWEMC member said they received a call from a scammer claiming the member was owed a refund. The scammer said the member needed to provide personal information to access the refund.

JWEMC warns members to be suspicious of anyone trying to access personal information over the phone.

“If you ever get a call from someone claiming to be JWEMC, we promise not to be offended if you hang up and call 256-552-2300 just to be safe,” JWEMC’s post stated. “Even if the call looks like it’s from us, it may not be.”
