The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is offering dog obedience training for beginners and new dog owners beginning Sept. 5.

The six-week training course will take place every Thursday at the Moulton Lions Club facility from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

During the course, trainers and their pets will learn basic commands with 4-H volunteer  and instructor Shirle Rogers. The course is also designed to build stronger companionships between participants and their canine friends.

Trainers will learn to teach their dog how to “heel,” sit at their owner’s left side and stand in the first week of training. Other commands that will be taught in the course include push and pull, sit and stay, circle, trick jumping, formal recalling and others.

The course is open to all breeds of dogs who have had their rabies vaccinations. Proof of your pet’s vaccine record is required upon registration.
