Courtland’s third annual Super Soaker 5K and one-mile Fun Run is happening Saturday in downtown Courtland.
The main event, the Super Soaker 5K will begin on Tennessee Street at 5 p.m. with a one-mile fun run to immediately follow.
This unique 5K experience is as fun for onlookers as it is for the racers. Visitors to the event are encouraged to bring water guns to soak runners from the sidelines as they pass by on the racecourse, event planner Sonja Gillespie explains.
“Those who complete the race will finish with a cool blast from Courtland’s fire truck,” said Gillespie.
Pre-registration for racers cost $20 for the 5K and $15 for the one-mile Fun Run. Participants may also register the day of the event from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Same-day registration costs $25 for the 5K and $20 for the fun run.
All proceeds benefit the Courtland Community Revitalization Committee in planning future events for their community, said Gillespie.
The top male and top female racer of each event will be awarded following the races, Gillespie added. Registrants for the 5K will be divided into 14 age groups from zero to 70 years old and over, and the top three finishers of each group will also be awarded.
Maggie Moo’s Ice Cream truck will be in the area from noon until 7 p.m., and A’s Café will sell hamburgers and hotdogs on the Courtland Square beginning at 4:30.
