The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office said investigations continue this week following the death of 30-year-old Akeem Montez Koger, of Town Creek, who was killed in a shooting in the Red Bank community Monday morning.

A report from the Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the shooting happened after an altercation arose between Koger and another male and female.

“Investigators have known the identity of the shooter and have interviewed the shooter and multiple witnesses the night of the incident and all this week,” the report states. “The investigation is still on going as witnesses continue to come forward.”

The identities of the other parties involved will be released after the District Attorney’s Office has reviewed all evidence, said the Sheriff’s Office. No arrests have been made.

The Sheriff’s Department is also looking into Koger’s personal items that were reported missing the morning of the incident, according to the report.

Koger was shot around 3 a.m. Monday morning on County Road 268, a few miles north of Town Creek. He was transported in a private vehicle to Helen Keller Hospital in Tuscumbia where he died of his injuries.

Lawrence County Coroner Scott Norwood said Koger’s body was sent for an autopsy at the state forensics office in Huntsville.
