Moulton Fire Department handed out its last smoke detector by noon on Monday during its Fire Prevention Week smoke detector giveaway.

After receiving an anonymous donation of hundreds of smoke detectors earlier this month, the department planned to distribute them to Lawrence County residents at the Moulton Fire Station this week, Monday through Friday.

Fire Chief Jolly announced that the last detector had been given away Monday afternoon.

“Our 2019 Fire Prevention smoke detector drive was a success,” he said. “We gave out over 500 detectors before lunch today, and we are completely out.”

Over 150 families were reached during the giveaway, according to the department’s Facebook page.

“We apologize, but all smoke detectors have been distributed,” a post states. “Thank you to everyone who participated, and please remember to practice fire safety!”
