The Lawrence County Extension is looking to recruit 15 Lawrence County individuals 16 years of age and over who are ready to commit 13 weeks of time and $150 to become an Alabama Master Gardener.
The Alabama Master Gardener Program is provided and administered by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. It is an educational program to train and certify individuals who, in turn, volunteer their expertise and time in support of the Cooperative Extension effort as well as organizations that foster horticultural science and best practices in local communities. Typical sessions in the 13-week session include integrated pest management, plant selection, soils, insect identification, plant disease management and more.
Certification after completion of the classes involves volunteer hours on approved projects.
The cost of the course is $150 and includes all study materials, including a Master Gardener book valued at over $40. Prospective Master Gardeners must also complete an application and undergo a background check.
Plans are to have the class start February 6th, contingent upon the registration of at least 15 students. Extension Regional Agent in Home & Grounds Taylor Reeder will coordinate the program, which will meet at the Lions Club, located at 455 School Street in Moulton.
For questions or to register, call the Lawrence County Extension Office at 256-974-2464. The Extension Office is located in Suite 6 of the Agricultural Center at 13075 Alabama 157 in Moulton.
To contact Reeder directly, email email@example.com or call 256-766-6223.
Prospective students, please be aware there is a Master Gardener Class starting in Cullman County at a similar time. If there is sufficient interest, the Extension Office may consider video conferencing sessions for Lawrence County residents who would like the option if we do not reach our goal of 15 people.
