The newly constructed Dollar General on Alabama Highway 33 in the Wren community will hold an official grand opening ceremony on Saturday starting at 8 a.m.
General Manager Charlene Kerby said the first 50 shoppers, ages 18 and over, will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card. She said 200 tote bags with product samples and other giveaways will also be handed out as long as supplies last.
“It’s going to be a big event,” she said. “We’ll have cake and the Pepsi wagon will be here. We invite everyone to come out, enjoy our grand opening, and meet our new employees.”
The store that opened late last month now employees eight workers.
“We have a full house, but we’re always taking applications,” Kerby said.
As of Monday, the store was unable to accept credit, debit or EBT cards, but Kerby said credit and debit machines were being installed this week before the grand opening.
Construction for the Wren store was announced last July, but weather delays and additional ground work for the site pushed opening back several months, according to Moulton Building Inspector Renay Saint.
Though the Dollar General lies outside Moulton City limits, Saint said the store located at the intersection of Highways 33 and 36 is still within Moulton’s police jurisdiction, which means the city may receive a small percentage of sales tax.
“(Dollar Generals) are popping up everywhere now. Mount Hope and Danville each have one,” Saint said. “I think it will do real good out there.”
Kerby said the Wren store stocks merchandise and home décor items unlike any other store she’s seen so far.
“We’ve got tall lamps, flower arrangements, mirrors and throws that are totally different from any of the other stores I’ve seen,” she said. “We’ve got a great selection of things to choose from.”
