The Lawrence County Farmers Federation, young farmers division is holding their third annual Children’s New Shoe Drive.

The drive is being held for the entire month of July at the Lawrence County's Farmers Market, which is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 6 a.m to 1 p.m, and on Thursdays from 1 to 7 p.m.

A collection box will be placed next to the office during the market’s operating hours each week. Donors are encouraged to bring new shoes (no worn donations, please), which will be collected and donated to Lawrence County DHR at the end of the month. The Young Farmers Chairman, Mitchell Henry, said donations in any children’s size are acceptable.

Mitchell Henry, also said kids sizes and tennis shoes are what’s mostly needed. Larger sizes up to an adult size 12 are also needed and are appropriate for older children.

The shoes will be donated to any children who come into care, either through Child Protective Services or through Foster Care. All of the donated shoes go to local children. Last year a total of 75 pairs of shoes were donated.

The last opportunity to donate is Tuesday, July 30 before 1 p.m. Lawrence County Farmers Market is located on Alabama Highway 157 in Moulton.
