Wild South hosted its third Wild Wednesday hike in the Bankhead National Forest this summer, but the organization has had to adapt to a new way of hosting forest treks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wild South is now hosting the family-friendly hikes virtually.

"Join us by watching a series of Wild Wednesday videos we are producing and learn about amazing places that adults and kids can visit on their public lands and how to stay safe and Leave No Trace," Wild South staff said.

Each virtual hike is posted to Wild South's website and shared on Facebook. Weekly Wild Wednesday hikes can also be accessed by visiting the Wild South YouTube channel, so even if you miss one, parents and children may still check out previous hikes by following the appropriate link.

Wild South Outreach Coordinator Janice Barrett leads each hike, but also features a special guest with her each week. The first hike, featuring volunteer teacher and co-explorer Heather Montgomery and volunteer videographer Christopher Davenport, was posted to the Wild South website on July 1.

Barrett said about three or four more videos can be expected over the next few weeks, including two that have since posted in the past two weeks.
