A single fatality was reported after a two-vehicle crash occurred on Alabama Highway 20 in Hillsboro on Tuesday.

Alabama State Troopers confirmed James Randolph Church, 49, of Tuscumbia, was killed in the accident that occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. near County Road 217.

According to a Troopers report, Church was driving eastbound along Highway 20 in a 2011 Ford pickup truck when his vehicle struck a grain bin being towed by a John Deere tractor traveling in the same direction.

The driver of the tractor, Edward Lavearl Rutherford, 40, of Hillsboro, reported that he saw Church’s vehicle strike the grain bin and cross the center of the highway before resting along the side of the road.

A State Troopers report said there were no brake marks on the roadway at the point of impact.

Lawrence County Coroner Greg Randolph pronounced Church dead at the scene from blunt force trauma to his chest. No other injuries were reported.
