A 62-year-old male from Moulton was transported to an area hospital following a single-vehicle accident in Speake Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.

Speake Volunteer firefighters were called to the 1400 block of County Road 211 around 3:04 p.m. after a dump truck had overturned in the area, Speake Assistant Chief Gunnar Walling said.

“Before we arrived on scene, 911 dispatch advised us that there was a patient still inside the vehicle,” he said.

Around 3:19 p.m., Speake firefighters successfully extricated the male patient, whose name is not being released at this time. Walling said Moulton Fire Department had also been called for backup as a precaution.

Greg Randolph, with Greg’s Ambulance Service, said the patient was transported by ambulance to Decatur General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The patient was responsive at the time an Air Evac team landed and denied the helicopter transportation, Walling said.

“We’re not x-ray machines, but from what we could see, he should make a full recovery,” Walling said. “We can’t call that kind of stuff in the field, but he was transported and was alert.

Walling said the patient was the only person involved in the crash. No other injuries were reported.
