Man wanted for robbery in Trinity caught in Atlanta

The man who was wanted by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office for armed robbery was captured Monday at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Authorities said Sami Saleh Mahmoud was stopped by U.S. Customs when he bought a plane ticket to leave the country.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, deputies and investigators responded to an armed robbery at 9 p.m. on Saturday at The Country Mart Store at 23469 County Road 460 in Trinity.

“…it was determined that an employee and the store owner were involved in an altercation and then the employee robbed the store for an undisclosed amount of cash,” the report states.

An arrest warrant for Mahmoud was issued early this week for first-degree robbery.
