Those who want to escape the confines of their home without getting caught in the Black Friday rush can do so by opting for a workday with Wild South on Friday, Nov. 29.

Wild South is “Going Green” on Black Friday by hosting a trash pick-up along Cranal Road the same day. Volunteers who join Wild South staff will also get to enjoy a short hike into the Sipsey Wilderness after the cleanup.

Those interested in participating should register by emailing Kim Waites at kim@wildsouth.org.

Volunteers will meet at the Sipsey Recreation Picnic area on Cranal Road at 8:30 on Friday morning. Cranal Road is the southern border of the Sipsey Wilderness.

“From there, we will divide into groups and begin picking up trash along designated sections of the road,” Wild South staff said. “All the necessary equipment (trash grabbers, buckets, trash bags) and personal safety gear will be provided.”

Participants are encouraged to pack drinking water, snacks, and work gloves. Volunteers are also advised to dress appropriately for the weather; wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.

“Come ‘give back’ to public lands, and bring the whole family,” Wild South said. “Work your turkey off and escape Black Friday with Wild South!”

The Wild South Office is located at 552 Lawrence Street in Moulton. For more information, call 256-974-6166.
