The Moulton Advertiser staff is saddened this week as well as proud of the legacy left by The Advertiser head since 2007, Barrett C. Shelton Jr., who passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020, at his home from natural causes.

Barrett Shelton Jr. was a hard-nosed newspaperman, loving family man and astute businessman, and had a variable focus on his love of the community.

Shelton, who had a distinguished career as a newspaperman and a hand in the growth of Decatur and the Tennessee Valley, was 89.

In 2010, Shelton retired and passed the torch to his son, Clint, who is the fourth Shelton to serve as publisher of The Decatur Daily.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Georgia Tolly Gilmer Shelton and is survived by his second wife, Carolyn West Shelton, three children, six grandchildren, a sister, two stepchildren and four step-grandchildren.

He will be missed by all.
