Peebles named Courtland Citizen of the Year

Linda Peebles was awarded Courtland Citizen of the Year at Courtland’s 2019 Picnic in the Park event that was held Saturday, June 1.

Linda Peebles was named Courtland Citizen of the Year at the City’s 43rd Annual Picnic in the Park summer celebration, hosted by the Courtland Community Revitalization Committee.

Peebles was awarded for her long-term service to the Courtland community, CCRC Communications Director Lisa Pace said.

“Linda is a friend to everyone, and she always puts the well-being of Courtland first,” Pace said. “She has resided downtown for over a decade and assisted with numerous community projects and activities. She’s a treasure for our city.”

Pace said the annual Picnic in the Park featured several fun activities for the visiting youth, including a Children’s parade and games provided by Cornerstone Church.

Musical performances by Half Way to Nowhere, The Kelley’s, and the Ray Sparks Band kept visitors to downtown Courtland entertained as they sampled food selections from several local vendors.

“The weather was great, and the music was extraordinary,” Pace said. “Everyone who attended had a great time with lots of great food.”

The event held on Courtland’s square each year attracts hundreds from the county and surrounding areas as the community prepares for other fun summer events.

The Revitalization Committee is also planning their Freedom Spectacular Fireworks Show for Saturday, June 29, as well as a Third Thursday community event to be held downtown on the third Thursday of each month during the summer season.

Courtland’s firework show is held annually at Roy Coffey Park and usually features music and concessions.

Pace said further details will be announced in coming weeks.
