TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Police in Alabama say a woman found shot to death was killed by a 14-year-old who was playing with a gun.

Tuscaloosa police Capt. Kip Hart tells news outlets that Elexis Lashelle McCool was driving around with the 14-year-old, who was shooting out of a car window and shot McCool through the driver seat. The boy's 15-year-old brother was also in the car.

Hart says McCool pulled over and the boys helped her into the back seat before driving to west Tuscaloosa for unknown reasons. He says the boys then realized McCool was dead. He says they took her phone and identification and locked the car and threw away its keys.

The 14-year-old is charged with murder. His brother is charged with offenses including abuse of a corpse.
