An informational Food Myths meeting was held in Moulton on February 23 by the Lawrence County Extension Office.

Josh Melson, Lawrence County Extension Agent, Alex Tigue, North West Alabama Regional Extension Specialist, and Allison Shlabel, Lawrence and Morgan County Extension Agent, led the meeting.

Topics covered were meat animal production, food labeling, and genetically modified organisms or GMOs.

The meeting was designed to discuss many concerns and misconceptions about the food we eat.

Todays consumer has questions and for good reason. What are GMOs? Is the meat at the grocery store safe to eat? Is food raised organically better for me? It is a fact that agriculture is not the same today as it was several years ago.

I want to commend the Lawrence County Extension Office for offering this educational meeting. We are fortunate to have leaders who want Lawrence County citizens to be more knowledgeable about the food we eat.

If you want to watch a live stream of the meeting, go to the Lawrence County Extension Office Facebook page and scroll down until you see the video.

Lawrence County Farmers Federation Board Member and Young Farmers Chairman
