I have found out there are certain rules that apply for certain people within the Lawrence County School System.  These rules apply when it comes to employment opportunities within the school system.

In order for this county  to grow, we must deal with the low number of African-American teachers and support staff being hired in Lawrence County schools.

At this present time, there are only five African-Americans employed as Child Nutrition Workers in Lawrence County schools.

I continue to ask board members what is in place to make this hiring practice better when it comes to diversity and what we need to do.   Do we need to put people in positions that show concern for all individuals?

In order for diversity to work, sometimes we must go outside of Lawrence County to hire people. Until  we get someone in place that really understands  the importance of diversity, Lawrence County will never reach its full potential.

Our children need to be educated about diversity and we should work to achieve this goal.
