Lawrence County’s Rebekah Childress was victorious in claiming the individual championship at the Lawrence County golf tournament that took place on April 25.
The win was a big deal for the young golfer and the young Lady Devils.
“I was proud of all the girls,” said head coach Paden King. “I thought the weather could be a factor but they really stepped up. Bekah had a big day.”
Childress was able to play solid despite having the looming distraction of weather over her.
“They knew early on that we were going to get some weather issues but they played through it and didn’t let it bother them.”
The Devils missed out on sub-state by three strokes, but Childress’ win still spells big things for their future.
“Anytime you win the county tournament it’s big,” King said. “Winning builds a culture more than anything. Coming that close to sub-state and having everybody back can help build towards next year.”
