Two twin grandsons of Lawrence County residents are currently making their way through the majors.
Christopher Burgess and Brenton Burgess were both drafted in the recent MLB draft and are currently in rookie training camp in Sarasota, Florida.
The twins are the grandsons of Charlie and Patricia Burgess, both residents of Moulton. Their father, who is the head basketball coach at Chamblee High School in Georgia, is a graduate of Lawrence County High School.
Brenton Burgess was drafted by the Atlanta Braves, while Christopher was selected by the Baltimore Orioles. Both players played one year in college, Brenton at Georgia Gwinnett and Christopher at Middle Georgia State.
Brenton started 56 of 57 games for the Grizzlies batting .347 with 61 hits and six homeruns.
Christopher had an average of .217 with 23 hits and 25 RBIs, but had an on-base percentage of .410. Christopher thrived in the field at his catcher position with a FPCT of .971.
