This is officially our last week without football as the season starts next week. We’ll be continuing our series looking at each county team’s opponents.
This week we’ll be looking at weeks three and four.
Note: R.A. Hubbard starts their season in week 0 so they will be a week ahead.
East Lawrence vs. Clements 10/11
Head coach: Michael Parker
2018 record: 4-7
2018 meeting: Clements 40-0
What to know: This was the game last year that ultimately kept East Lawrence out of the playoffs. It was a close game at halftime before the Colts ran away in the second half. Head coach James Moore said his Eagles weren’t quite ready at the time for the pressure of win and get in the playoffs. This year could be a different story.
R.A. Hubbard @ Gaylesville 10/4
Head coach: Brian Knapp
2018 record: 3-7
2018 meeting: Hubbard 48-0
What to know: The Trojans are breaking in a new coach after six seasons under their previous coach, in which they had just one winning season.
Hatton @ Tharptown 10/11
Head coach: Kevin Lacey
2018 record: 2-7
2018 meeting: Hatton 66-7
What to know: Tharptown’s quarterback transferred to the Hornets for the 2019 season.
Lawrence County @ Jasper
Head coach: Bryan Moore
2018 record: 11-2
2018 meeting: Jasper 28-7
What to know: In his first year as head coach, and Jasper’s first year back at 5A, Moore took the Vikings all the way to a region title and the quarterfinals. They’ll be the favorite to win the region again this year. This was a tight game last year until the Vikings depth wore down the Red Devils. Being a borderline 6A school, Jasper will have the advantage in depth over most teams they play.
R.A. Hubbard @ Woodville 10/11
Head coach: Jay Powell
2018 record: 4-6
2018 meeting: Hubbard 42-33
What to know: The Panthers almost caught the Chiefs sleepwalking last year and was really the only team outside of Falkville in the region to give them a challenge. Safe to say the Chiefs probably won’t be sleeping on Woodville again.
East Lawrence @ Phil Campbell 10/17
2018 record: 2-8
2018 meeting: East Lawrence 32-26
What to know: The Eagles got one of their two wins over Phil Cmapbell last year.
Hatton @ Lexington 10/18
Head coach: Jason Lard
2018 record: 1-9
2018 meeting: Hatton 46-13
What to know: The Hornets will have this game before facing off with traditional North Alabama power Addison.
Lawrence Couunty @ Hamilton 10/18
Head coach: Rodney Stidham
2018 record: 4-6
2018 meeting: 43-28
What to know: After two close losses to Russellville and Jasper and losing several key starters, it was an upset by the Aggies that kicked the wheels completely off the Red Devil wagon. They’ll be looking to right that wrong in 2019.
