Fall camp starts on Monday and the season is three weeks away so we’ll be continuing our series looking at each county team’s opponents.

This week we’ll be looking at weeks 3 and 4.

Note: R.A. Hubbard starts their season in week 0 so they will be a week ahead.

East Lawrence vs. Locust Fork 9/13

Head coach: Matt Punkett

2018 record: 4-6

2018 meeting: Locust Fork won 44-6

What to know: East Lawrence will get their first home game against a Locust Fork team that loses their head coach and several players.

Matt Plunkett takes over after going 3-7 in his only year as head coach at Cullman High School. Before that he amassed a 37-22 record in five years at Gardendale.

Hatton @ Sheffield 9/13

Head coach: David Hefstedler

2018 record: 6-5

2018 meeting: Sheffield won 17-16

What to know: It was the Bulldogs’ one point win last year that ultimately kept the Hornets out of the playoff race. This game could again be the deciding factor in whether or not Hatton makes the playoffs.

R.A. Hubbard @ Coosa Christian 9/6

Head coach: Kenneth Jacobs

2018 record: 7-4

2018 meeting: Hubbard won 40-7

What to know: Navendra Woods took Coosa Christian to their first winning season since 2009, but now he’s gone (resigned) after just two seasons. This game will serve as the last of a three game road stretch to open the season for R.A. Hubbard.

Lawrence County @ West Point 9/13

Head coach: Don Farley

2018 record: 3-7

Last year’s meeting: Lawrence County won 43-7.

What to know: Going into last year, the Lawrence County and West Point game had turned into somewhat of a rivalry, with each of the previous five meetings being decided by eight points or less. That wasn’t the case last year as Lawrence County ran away with the game 43-7. The Warriors struggled to stop the Devils’ passing attack, a passing attack that will probably be even better this year.

Lawrence County vs. Dora 9/20

Head coach: Bart Lockhart

2018 record: 5-6

2018 meeting: Dora won 35-29 in overtime

What to know: This one stung for the Devils as a couple of interceptions were what kept Dora in the game and a missed PAT at the end of regulation was what kept Lawrence County from the win. They’ll be out for revenge this year. The Bulldogs lost their two best players from last year.

East Lawrence vs. Colbert Heights 9/20

Head coach: Taylor Leathers

2018 record: 6-5

2018 meeting: Colbert Heights won 18-6

What to know: East Lawrence hung into this one until the end, but a couple of turnovers kept them from the win. A win here might’ve gotten East Lawrence into the playoffs .

Hatton vs. Colbert County 9/20

Head coach: Brett Mask

2018 record: 8-4

2018 meeting: Colbert County won 39-14

What to know: Having just barely dropped down to 2A, Colbert County is a tough draw for the Hornets. To make matters even more interesting, Slade Berryman, Hatton’s quarterback the past two seasons, will be quarterbacking the Indians this fall.

R.A. Hubbard vs. Decatur Heritage 9/13

Head coach: Steve Meek

2018 record: 7-4

2018 meeting: Hubbard won 41-20

What to know: With Falkville graduating so many seniors and losing a head coach it’s fair to say Deactur Heritage might be the biggest threat to Hubbard in the region. The Eagles have digressed a little each year since going 12-2 in 2015 (10-3 in 2016, 8-3 in 2017) but they have still consistently won games and made the playoffs each year.
