One of Lawrence County's best duos will be attending and playing football at the same University as Colton Johnson and Brody Franks both inked with Bethel Wednesday morning.
The two made up one of the top linebacker duos in North Alabama and now they will be once again playing on the same team
"I think it's pretty cool and a neat setup for both of them," said Lawrence County head coach Rich Dutton. "Playing college football is a difficult task and having someone you can trust there with you and help encourage to do the right things, I think it will be good for both of them."
Both players took different paths to getting where they were today. Johnson had been a consistent mainstay at the linebacker position for the past three years.
Franks spent time on the offensive and defensive line as a Sophomore and Junior before exploding as a Senior once he moved to hybrid linebacker/defensive end position.
For their Senior years Franks finished with finished with 127 tackles (71 solo), 10 sacks and 17 tackles for loss, while Johnson finished with 129 tackles (82 solo), four sacks, 13 tackles for loss and a blocked kick.
Those state were good enough to earn co-defensive players of the year and together they helped turn the linebacker position at Lawrence County in 2019 from a question mark to a team strength.
"That says a lot about them. These guys have been going strong since they were in the sixth grade and have been steady members of this program ever since," Dutton said. "This year the game slowed down for them and they started playing with more even more confidence and it really showed on the field. Today they're getting the rewards for all that hard work."
