Looking ahead to the playoffs: who, what and when?

Hatton pitcher Trey Steadman pitches for the Hornets in a recent game vs. Phil Campbell. Steadman will be a part of a pitching rotation that will try to help Hatton get past the first round of the playoffs this Friday at Section.

It’s playoff baseball time in Lawrence County and this year everyone is getting a taste.

That’s right, East Lawrence, Hatton and Lawrence County have all advanced to the AHSAA state baseball playoffs.

The playoffs are set to begin this week. Weather could be a factor but as of now the games are set to take place on Friday April 19.

The playoffs are a best of three format. Games one and two are played on Friday night and the game three, if needed, is played on Saturday.

Here’s everything you need to know for each team.

Lawrence County

Who? The Red Devils will play the Boaz Pirates.

Where and When?: The game will be played at Boaz on Friday starting at 4:30. The if needed game on Saturday will be at 1 p.m.

Records: At time of writing the Red Devils have a 17-14 record, while the Pirates have a 14-11 record.

Stepping on the mound: Coming off a no hitter, Cole Turner can be the difference for the Devils. The ace starts the first game of the series for the Red Devils. Against West Point and Russellville they dropped the first game, but against Hamilton they won. Setting the tone could be a big deal for the Red Devils.

Ty Hutto and Hunter White usually take the second and third games respectively.

East Lawrence

Who? The Eagles will take on Westminster Christian.

Where and When? East Lawrence will travel to Westminster, which is located in Huntsville. Games are set to begin at 4:30. The if needed game on Saturday will be at noon.

Records: At time of writing, East Lawrence holds a 16-18 record. Westminster Christian is 12-13.

Stepping on the mound: Clay Pilgrim is the team’s ace, but Noah Barnes is the key here. The senior usually steps on the mound for the first game. As evident by the Colbert Heights series, Barnes leading the Eagles to a win usually spells good things.

Depending on the outcome of game one could decide when Pilgrim pitches. Against Colbert Heights the Eagles won game one so Pilgrim didn’t pitch until game three.

Against Phil Campbell, Pilgrim pitched game two.

Who? Hatton will be facing off with Section in the first round.

Where and When? The Hornets will travel to Section Friday. First game is at 4:30. The Saturday if needed game will be at 1.

Records: At time of writing Hatton has an 8-17 record, while Section is 9-8.

Stepping on the mound: Trey Steadman will likely take the mound for the first game as he did in both area series. After that you could see a few different people including Reed Hill, Bryson Harville and Braedon Brown.
